Each domain is looked up through RDAP, the structured successor to WHOIS, via the rdap.org bootstrap so the query lands at the right registry for its TLD.
Read the events
Registration, last-changed and expiration dates come from the RDAP events list; registrar from the entity with the registrar role; nameservers from the nameserver list.
Classify the status
EPP status codes are grouped into safe (locks, auto-renew), watch (no lock, expiring soon), and danger (expired, redemption, pending delete) with a plain reading of each.
Sort and export
Results are ordered by days left so the urgent ones sit at the top. Download the table as CSV to check it into wherever you track renewals.
Why sending fleets lose domains
Cold email infrastructure runs on secondary domains bought in batches, at more than one registrar, often on a card that has since been replaced. Renewal notices go to the registrant contact, which for a fleet is usually a catch-all nobody opens. So a domain expires, the registrar parks it, MX and SPF vanish overnight, and every inbox on it starts bouncing — while the sending tool keeps reporting the campaign as running. Twenty domains bought together expire together. This tool exists so you can paste the whole batch once a month and see the dates the registry holds, not the ones you remember.
What the dates and flags mean
The expiry date is when the registry considers the registration over. Most registrars then hold the name for a grace period of up to 45 days during which you can renew at the normal price, but DNS is usually already replaced with parking during that window — mail fails even though you have not technically lost the domain. After grace comes redemptionPeriod, about 30 days, where recovery costs a redemption fee of $80 to $200 on top of renewal. Then pendingDelete, five days, and the name drops to the open market. On the safe side, clientTransferProhibited is the normal transfer lock, autoRenewPeriod means the registry has already auto-renewed and the registrar has a window to confirm, and a serverHold or clientHold means the domain has been suspended and will not resolve at all — usually unverified contact details or an abuse complaint, and worth investigating the same day.
Reading the registrar column
When a fleet is spread across registrars the column tells you where each renewal has to happen. Consolidating to one registrar with auto-renew on a card that will still exist next year removes most of the risk; the website cost estimator shows what each one charges per year, and the availability checker is where to look before buying replacements. A domain that shows a different registrar than you expect has been transferred — either by you and forgotten, or not by you.
Limits of RDAP
Every gTLD registry runs RDAP, so .com, .net, .org, .io, .co and the new TLDs all answer with full data. Many country-code registries do not — .de, .uk and .au among them — and for those the tool falls back to DNS to tell you only whether the domain still resolves. Some registrars redact the expiry date at the registry level and only show it in their own portal; the tool says so rather than guessing. rdap.org rate-limits heavy use, so fifty domains run a few at a time and a large fleet is best checked in batches.
Frequently asked questions
Why does the date differ from my registrar's dashboard?
The registry date is authoritative. Registrars sometimes show their own internal renewal date, a day earlier or later, or apply a grace window on top. If they differ by more than a couple of days, trust this one and ask the registrar why.
A ccTLD shows “no RDAP”. What can I do?
Most country registries still use classic WHOIS or a web form. The tool checks whether the domain resolves so you at least know it is alive; the expiry has to come from the registrar or the registry's own site.
Does a domain in the grace period still send mail?
Rarely. Registrars typically swap the nameservers to parking at expiry, so MX and SPF disappear even though the name can still be renewed. Treat the expiry date, not the end of grace, as the deadline.
How often should I run this on a sending fleet?
Monthly is enough if auto-renew is on everywhere and the payment method is current. Run it before any large campaign, and after any registrar migration, card change or team change.
Is anything I enter stored?
No. Queries go from your browser to rdap.org and the registries; nothing is saved on this site.
